Location: East Toronto
Property Type: 3+1 Bedroom Detached Home
Size: 1800 sq. ft.
Age: 100+ Years
Scope: Master Bedroom, Walk-In Closet, Basement, Lighting & Safety Upgrades
This 100-year-old solid brick home combined historical charm with the challenges of outdated design. The house had no wall insulation, limited lighting, and an awkward layout — including multiple unnecessary doors that disrupted circulation and a foyer entry that opened directly into the master bedroom.
Our renovation reimagined the interior with a focus on comfort, function, and modern aesthetics — enhancing livability while preserving the character of the century home.
Master Bedroom & Walk-In Closet
The master suite received a complete transformation. Exterior walls were insulated to improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort — a vital upgrade for solid brick homes. An adjacent study was converted into a luxurious, windowed walk-in closet with custom-built cabinetry, combining elegance with practicality. The redesigned layout removed redundant doors, simplifying circulation and creating a private retreat for the homeowners.
Lighting & Infrastructure Upgrades
The entire home previously suffered from poor illumination. We introduced pot lights throughout, brightening every space and creating a warm, welcoming ambiance. Alongside this, we completed comprehensive electrical and plumbing upgrades, ensuring the home meets modern safety and performance standards.
Stair Safety & Design Feature
The staircase to the second floor originally lacked a handrail, posing a safety concern. We installed a full-height wood slat divider, which now provides both safety and architectural interest. The open-slat design allows light and sightlines to flow through, maintaining a sense of openness while defining the stair zone — a perfect balance of function and design.
Basement Renovation
The basement was completely renewed, beginning with the safe removal of asbestos flooring. The new design introduced dedicated gym and storage spaces, featuring durable luxury vinyl plank and gym flooring paired with recessed pot lights. This once underused area is now a bright, practical extension of the home.
